The Welsh Crannog Centre at Llangorse Lake

Llangorse Lake is the largest natural lake in South Wales. It has been here since the last Ice Age. The shallow water has always attracted a rich variety of birds, animals and plants. Today it is an internationally recognised wildlife site.

The island on the lake is known as a CRANNOG. It is the name given to an ancient, man-made island. Such structures are common in Ireland and Scotland, but the Llangorse Crannog is the only known example in Wales and England, and has been identified as a royal residence. It is over 100 years old, but people have been here a lot longer. Early hunters were drawn by food and shelter - today we seek recreation and relaxation.

The Welsh Crannog Centre was constructed in 2004 to help interpret this unique site.
